The Student Subscription Audit You Can Finish Tonight

The short answer

Audit student subscriptions using statements, renewal dates and actual use. Check the cancellation process for each service and save its confirmation instead of assuming deleting the app ends billing.

On this pageFind the next charge

A subscription audit starts with transactions, not the apps visible on your home screen. A course tool, streaming plan or storage service may still matter to you. The task is to identify what you are paying for and make the next renewal a deliberate choice.

Give yourself a small scope: the services appearing in your recent statements and email receipts. You can investigate anything unclear separately.

Find the next charge

Make this original audit table in a note:

ServiceNext renewalAmount shownLast useful useDecision
______₹______Keep / review / cancel

Include annual plans as well as monthly ones. A service needed for an active college project may deserve a different decision from one opened for a single assignment. Check whether ending storage or a study tool would affect files you need, and arrange a permitted backup or export first.

If a charge is unfamiliar, identify the merchant before changing anything. Avoid clicking a surprise cancellation link in an unsolicited message; navigate to the service through its known app or website.

Complete the cancellation, not just the intention

India's consumer-affairs ministry lists subscription traps among the dark patterns it is addressing in e-commerce, in its July 2025 advisory update. That does not mean every confusing screen proves a violation. It does make the cancellation route a useful thing to inspect before renewal.

Follow the service's stated process, note when access ends and save its cancellation confirmation. Deleting an app is not evidence that the subscription has ended. Where billing is handled through an app store or another provider, check that provider's record too.

Put the released money back into the plan

Do not count a saving until the future charge has actually been stopped or changed. If a plan renews later, add a reminder before that date and leave it marked “review”.

The student budgeting guide gives you somewhere to put recurring costs. Finish tonight's audit with a short list of confirmed changes and unresolved charges. You can keep a service because you enjoy it; the point is to know you chose it.
