Put Cafe and Retail Work on Your Student Resume

The short answer

Describe the action you took, the setting and a result you can support. Use ordinary job titles and leave out metrics you did not record.

On this pageTurn a task into a clear bullet

Cafe and retail work can belong on a student resume. Describe what you actually did in language a recruiter can understand, without upgrading your title or inventing results.

“Helped in a shop” gives too little detail. “Directed commercial operations” usually gives far too much for a beginner helping at the counter.

Turn a task into a clear bullet

The following are fictional examples to show the shape:

Vague draftMore precise version
Worked in retailReplenished labelled shelves and reported missing or damaged items to the supervisor
Good at customer serviceAnswered product-location questions and referred returns to the authorised colleague
Worked in a cafeRecorded counter orders and checked requested options before handing them to the preparation team

Use a line only if it matches your experience. The examples do not establish that you have done those tasks.

AICTE's internship policy includes communication, dependability and initiative in supervisor evaluation. Those are useful prompts when recalling examples from work; they are not automatic claims to put beside your name.

Keep the evidence small and true

For each bullet, ask yourself: could I explain one occasion when I did this? If the answer is no, rewrite it.

Numbers help only when you recorded them accurately and can share them appropriately. Don't estimate customers served, sales growth or error reductions to make the line look impressive. A concrete task is stronger than an invented percentage.

Use the real dates, title and arrangement. Describe volunteering as volunteering and a brief trial as a brief trial. Ask before naming someone as a referee.

Hustl's position is simple: ordinary work does not need a glamorous label to deserve recognition. Give it enough detail for the reader to see the responsibility you carried.
