A college fest needs people who can organise information and materials as well as people who perform. If you want to help, ask which task has an owner, a deadline and a clear handover.
The stage is only one place to look.
IIT Madras's 06/01/2026 Saarang announcement describes a student-run festival with competitions, workshops and performances. That is a dated example of the range of activity, not an advertisement for current work.
Find the task behind the department name
Try this original planning map for your own fest:
| Work area | Concrete task to clarify |
|---|---|
| Registration | Check entries and route unresolved cases |
| Materials | Receive, label and return approved supplies |
| Participant coordination | Share confirmed reporting information |
| Programme desk | Maintain the approved running order |
| Venue support | Check signs and report missing arrangements |
A title such as “organising team” can hide several unrelated jobs. Ask what you would do during the actual event and before it.
Hustl's respect for everyday work applies to the person keeping the registration list usable as much as the person on stage.
Clarify the arrangement
Is this volunteering, a student committee responsibility or paid event work? What are the dates, working hours, expenses and expected preparation? A certificate or team title should not substitute for an answer about the arrangement.
Don't accept responsibility for specialist equipment, crowd control or electrical setup without the relevant training and supervision. You can help coordinate a request without becoming the person authorised to perform it.
For commercial event work, our wedding and event-helper guide covers the wider role search.
Before agreeing, write: “My task is __. I report to __. My deadline is __. I hand over to __.” If one space remains blank, resolve it with the organiser before the busy day begins.
