Test your stream audio before buying another light, overlay or microphone. A viewer needs to understand what you are saying, even when the game becomes loud.
The OBS quick-start guide explains how to check captured devices in the Audio Mixer and test settings with a short recording. Start there if you use OBS on a computer. A moving meter shows input; playback tells you what the audience hears.
Record an ordinary minute
Use your normal voice. Include quiet gameplay, a loud moment and a pause when you are not speaking. Play the recording through the earphones or speakers a viewer might use.
Our suggested listening checklist:
- Can I understand the voice without concentrating?
- Does game sound cover the important words?
- Is the same sound arriving twice?
- Can I hear noise from the room?
- Does the sound change when I turn away?
- Is a private conversation or notification audible?
Tell people sharing the room when you are recording. A stream can capture more than your own voice.
Change one thing
If the balance is wrong, adjust one input and repeat the test. Changing several settings together makes it difficult to know what helped.
Save a short reference clip once you have a usable setup. Next time, compare against it before going live. Recheck when you change a device, cable, room or recording application.
You do not need to solve every audio problem by purchasing equipment. A different position, lower game volume or simpler setup may address what you actually heard. Borrowing a compatible device can help test an idea before spending.
