You can contribute to a college esports club without being its strongest player. The useful starting question is what the next event needs someone to finish.
Formal competitions already involve more than players. The BMPS 2026 rulebook refers to coaches, managers, staff and tournament officials. A college club is a different setting, and these references are not evidence of paid vacancies or a promised career.
Pick a deliverable
For a small campus event, this is a suggested division of work:

Do not hand one person every invisible task because they are “good at organising.” Ask what they want to try, agree on the time involved and provide a handover.
Run a rehearsal
Use a small practice event before promising a larger one. Can someone find the timetable without asking? Can the audience hear the host? Does the results sheet make sense to a person who missed the match?
Write down what failed and who will fix it. These are useful project observations, not personal judgments.
If money is involved, agree in advance which roles are paid, which are voluntary and what costs participants are being asked to cover. A club title alone does not answer that.
Preparing the fixture card and stacking chairs after the final both deserve credit. Hustl's belief in respect for everyday work applies to the tasks that audiences see and the ones they miss.
For adults aged 18+ considering paid event roles, read the event-helper role guide. If you later describe your club contribution on a resume, name the actual output and your responsibility. “Managed esports” tells the reader less than a clear account of what you completed.
